Something I Scribbled

I'm not really a poet. Sometimes I write something down cuz I'm mad or sad or whatever. Sometimes it sounds good. This one was interesting to me.

Wage slaves ...

Tied to our jobs, we're slaves to the wage
All just to have a place to stay
Food to eat and winter heat
Keping alive, so tough to survive

Our parents before us, accepted their fate
To build corporate pyramids and prop up the state
This life aint for me, a life of drudgery
Chasing dollars just to make ends meet.

Forget interest bearing fiat money
Issued by bankmasters with corruption built-in
The fiat money's based only on our faith
And brother I've lost my faith.

I need something new, I know what to do.
New tribal money created by me and you
Using technology to know who's who.
And unlike today, nobody gets screwed.

Pssst ...

$59.85 high today for the August contract (Nymex light sweet). w00t. come on $60. Could also have something to do with that big populous country who's oil demand growth knows no bounds. I'm talking about China of course, who conincidentally is also trying to buy out American oil companies.

More oil

I cant get enough. Ok so guess what? Another new record? $59.70 / barrel for next month contract? Am I kidding? No. What I'm kidding about is this: Norway technicians strike, effective immediately. 920,000 bpd will as a result stop flowing. Yeah ok just kidding, but thats one of the things traders are worried about.

Madagascar

I watched it last night. Well it was ok, not great. It was like that other movie, Ice Age, in that it was ok but definitely not great. Lots of boring feel good jibberjabber and crap. Plot a little thin. Spoiler: They live in the zoo. The break out (Zebra, followed by others). They get caught and are tranq'ed, boxed up, and sent away on a boat packed in individual boxes (there are penguins, a hippo, a giraffe, a zebra and a Lion named Alex) each to far away destinations. The penguins want to go to Antarctica, the others want to go to 'the wild' or most of them do. The penguins escape and hijack the ship, a sharp turn causes the crates with the animals to end up in the water and adrift until they reach an island. 30 minutes in here. Then we have bad guys 'foosa' hyena things not long after (they all crash a big lemur party, badguys first). Lion saves the day, lemurs love the new animals. Lion wants to get out of there and go back home to the zoo where he's the superstar and eats steak all the time. Lame gags abound. They go to another part of the island and lion decides he wants to stay, but he's hungry and cant eat his buddies. They dont really address the problem, he just gets hungrier and crazier from the hunger. Secludes himself so he doesnt eat his friends. Lame lame lame. Penguins who turn out not to like antarctica come to the island and intervene when badguys show up again. Lion comes out to finish them off, and tells them to get off his turf. Roar. They oblige. Penguins feed fish to the lion. Silly feel good ending.

More fun than a Barrel full of oil ...

... Is of course watching the wackiness of oil prices. Guess what happened again today? Another new record! According to this story:
U.S. NYMEX crude for July hit a record $59.23 per barrel, before paring gains to stand up 28 cents at $58.75 at 1445 GMT. Brent futures for August traded in London climbed 24 cents to $58 a barrel, having hit a fresh peak of $58.58.
Well thats just dandy! We're flirting with $60 per barrel like we want to have sex with it or something. Hahahaha. That day when you go to the grocery store and .... THERE IS NO FOOD ... is coming closer each day. w00t. Why does that make me happy? Because I favor an outright smashing of this society so as a new more connected and tribal one can emerge from the ashes. I hope you and I dont starve to death along the way.

Couple movies

So I'm gonna give Madagascar and The Day After Tomorrow a whirl ... downloading them via BT right now. Oh, btw in case anyone is wondering, i saw on Pirate Bay links to what is supposed to be an EXCELLENT quality DVDRip of Star Wars Episode III --- NOT the workprint but a proper DVDRip of something that is apparently missing only the credits and the quality is top notch. I've seen some screenshots. Anyways, I actually paid money to see that movie in the theatre and I dont generally watch movies twice unless they just became my favorite movie, which doesnt really happen anymore (I dont really play favorites anymore). I'll try and remember to let y'all know (not like anyone reads this haha) how Madagascar and TDAT were. 'Course, berardinelli could tell ya.

TV shows

Following up on the post about the TV show info getting code I was writing ... well its working now, theres 3 parts to it. Part 1 gets all the content from the tv.com All Shows -> Browse shows A-Z pages and saves each letter (the listing is divided up into alphabetical subpages) into big html files. Each letter can have pages to it, in the case of 'S' I think there are 10 pages; My program will make sure to get the content of all the pages for each letter, and join them all into one big html file.

The second part is to go through those big html pages for each letter and find the shows that have no ending date, presupposing that those shows without ending dates are currently airing shows. It saves this list of what it thinks are current shows to a big tabular file.

Then the user edits the tabular file and sets a flag for any shows that are cared about.

The third part of the program will read in the tabular current shows file, and go get current episode information for the shows that have been flagged. Its pretty simple right now, whatever integer was used as the flag for the show being cared about is used as the number of most recent episodes to list. The program will also record any upcoming episodes that havent aired yet and show the soonest one.

Heres some sample output:

As is, I suppose, typical for the summertime, there isnt much happening on TV right about now. Also, some of the info on TV.com is obviosly out of date. Like Conan O'Brien show listings havent been updated in a week since I know there WERE new episodes this week. Also, in case you wonder why 4 episodes of Daily show are listed, I set it to 4 for that one. Because theres usually 4 new episodes each week and sometimes I dont get to watch it during the week so I download all four.

Enhancements would be to have other sources of episode listings to compare against and have the program use whatever info seems to be more complete. Also, of course and mentioned previously, finding and even possibly starting the download of torrents for the shows. I could take a crack at the finding, but not sure at all on automating downloading.

Fleeting moment of optimism

We are creating the tools we need to take the future back from those who would enslave us. We _are_ doing it. Its a slow process, painfully slow, such that progress is barely perceptable, yet the progress is there and things are happening. More and more code is being realeased in GPL and open source formats thus building up the codebase, the building blocks if you will, for the future. The same thing is happening now with writing and other information resources with new licesnces like the creative commons. Its a beautiful thing that CC, and the GPL, how virally they cuase derived works to enjoy the same freedoms. The same thing will happen with the home fabbers that will inevitably find a nook in every home to manufacture simple housewares, machines and whatnot required for every day living. Of course the most popular designs for objects to be produced by the fabbers will be licensed under a creative commons scheme.

The children of today, those little fragile people who we dont give enough credit, those two and three year olds of 2005, well we're finally developing the tools THEY will need to build a real future and escape this bullshit that the older generation is struggling against. We'll cast off the ineffeciencies of old style command and control capitalism and usher in something magical, well magical seeming, for when it all finally comes together it will feel like magic and the hand of God at work. God working through us, through human cooperation. We've a long way to go and plenty of opportunity to fuck it all up, but its the direction that things are now going and its a good direction to go in. The future must be an open one if we are going to survive on this planet, and I have this sneaking feeling that it will just all fall into place and work out in the best way.

TV and me

Ok so I'm still mourning the passing of Btefnet -- so handy to just list _NEW_ episodes of shows. Well I'm trying to solve the problem. See, TVtome got eaten by (I think) CNet, and is now just tv.com ... this site is an interesting resource, and seems to be kept more up to date for some shows, most notably the daily show with Jon Stewart (my current favorite show). So I'm thinking I'll write a script that goes and finds out the latest episodes of the shows I care about!. Sounds easy right? Well, I wasnt sure at first what all the shows I was interested in, and since I'm such a general purpose kind of guy, I wrote some code that will go and get ALL the Tv shows from the a-z listing for all eras (was just gonna limit it to 1990s and 2000s but then found that the simpsons is a 1980s show believe it or not). The script identifies and grabs content from each of the subpages within a given letter listing (letter s has 10 pages!), and puts all content from each letter into an individual page. Then we can go through the pages and find shows that are still running. According to tv.com theres 2449 shows that are still running, that is to say there is no ending year specified. Hrmm, thats a lot more than I was hoping. Anyways so now I'm at the point where I just want to flag in the big table which shows _I_ care about. Next I'm going to write the code to get the last page of the episode list for a given show, and then get thelast x episodes for it. For now, I'm just going to list the episodes. At least then I'll know what I'm looking for on BT. Once I get sick of manually looking for the new eps like some kind of scavenging mongrel dog, I'll hopefully be able to figure a way of automating that. Then a way of automating the actual download process. :D

Oil Setting Fresh Records

Geeze ... realized just now that I'm not posting enough. So to make up for it I'll post a couple things today. I already told you about how Jess left. So now lets talk oil.

OH MY GOODNESS! Fiddle Dee Dee ... Oil broke a new record (58.60 intraday settling at 58.47, and we're talking light sweet here not that sulpher-packed-unrefinable Saudi shit. I was going to say it punched through a record but thats gay, and we have to wait for it to go above $60 before we can say it punched through anything. Cuz $60 is a barrier. They say that it will take some major oil related supply/refinery/demand/labour problem to make it go that high. Ok ... here goes. TODAY IN NIGERIA WORKERS THREATENED TO STRIKE ON ALL SHELL'S PUMPING STATIONS, UNLESS A TRIPLING IN THEIR WAGES IS GRANTED. OIL PUMPING WILL BE SHUT DOWN FROM ALL SHELL OIL's TERMINALS IN NIGERIA EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY IF LABOURS DEMANDS ARE NOT MET FORTHWITH.

Ok maybe that'll do it. Are we at $60 yet?

A Parting of Ways

So me and my wife/fiancee/been-together-far-too-long-to-just-be-gf has left me. Its something we've been talking about for a long time. She left for a week or so back in March. We've had a rocky 8 year relationship. I never hit her or anything like that. Didnt even call her names UNLESS she started that shit first. Mostly we just dont see eye to eye on a lot of things, and its too bad because we complement each other so well in many ways. I'm thinking right now that I'll have a chance to get my life organized though and maybe I'll find that I am completely able to do all the things I've previously relied on her for. Who knows. Today I did make my own dinner (chicken breast on the stove, burned the sauce right into the pan! oh my, maybe lower heat next time; salad with iceberg lettuce, half a tomato and 1/4 of a cucumber. mmm good. italian dressing. mmm better.) which is something that I've historically shied desperately away from, resorting to quick things that come in a can or a box and go in the microwave or in a pan and are ready to eat with very little effort. But I got a strange satisfaction out of making my own meal. Maybe it was just the realization that by doing so I could stave off the inevitable of that chicken breast going bad along with the salad stuff. I hate to waste food.

'Course, when I've got me a home thermal depolymerization system there wont be such a thing as wasted food (or excrement for that matter ... precious precious energy packed human excrement).

Looking for TV shows.

Oh I dont think I posted about it but it deeply affected me. Maybe I did and am too lazy to read archives. I think I said that Btefnet got sued but were still in biz on IRC ... too bad that was only for a very very short time. Anyway so btefnet is gone wiped off the earth sort of. So now I'm looking for TV shows the old fashioned way .. poking around looking for dates of new episodes of my shows, and then finding for download. Kind of lame. I liked how btefnet just listed torrents for the the latest episodes of popular tv shows such as (goddam, no particular order, eh ... hehe):

the daily show with jon stewart
lost
family guy
south park
simpsons
american dad
real time with bill maher
that 70s show

I'm sure theres others (Maybe I'll update this list sometime), but its hard to tell easily whats even out there now .... I'm finding just a kind of mess of new and old releases on these other non-tv-specialty torrent sites. So I miss btefnet. And TVtorrents was good too, but of course as you probably know they are history also. Perhaps there is enough pressure for a better btefnet/tvtorrents to rise up, one that is more unsuable, if thats possible ... with distributed bt tracker systems now out there it might make it easier.

Getting Buried

I'm getting buried in debt. I kind of had it under control, but hahahahaha NOT ANYMORE!

Now its out of control. See, what happened was I went to school, you know so I could try and be a productive member of this bullshit "society". Anyways, took me some time to find a job and so I got a lot of debt on credit cards built up during and mostly right after college. About $25000 ... ok not so bad, but I also have to take care of my wife and child, and trust me that is not cheap. A lot of expenses every month and just barely able to pay all that and pay the debt service. I tried to get consolidation loans, and while theres nothing wrong with my credit save from some previous and resolved account delinquency (30 - 60 days on a couple cards) I just dont qualify for a low interest consolidation loan type product.

Now given that, I've sometime ago resigned myself to eventually going bankrupt. I had hoped that maybe I wouldnt need to ... but with the latest development its a sure thing.

See, my car has been having problems for the last little while. And well it turns out the problems I was noticing were are result of hidden problems. Anyways, with all the work that really is required, I'm out about $2000. And I dont have it, so I took a brand spanking new loan, at the most usurous rate I've ever subjected myself to.

I've used that loan to pay off the two companies that might be able to reposess things I need and use, and the rest is going to go to pay for the car repairs and to be used to pay the monthly servicing bill for this new loan. (I dont think you're supposed to service the loan with the loan ... but whatever.)

But theres no way I can afford to live and pay back (or even service) my new level of debt. Wonder why these morons even gave me the loan. Well good for them.
